When watching Tekken I did not expect much. Sometimes, not expecting much, leads to being pleasantly surprised; in the case of Tekken there was just nothing.<br/><br/>The plot is the strongest element that this movie has going for it, and it's a weak, generic and uninspired plot line. But hey, it's a movie about fighting, you don't expect a storytelling masterpiece and that is exactly what the problem is with this film, the plot is the best thing its got going on for itself. There are one or two unsurprising and completely predictable twists…<br/><br/>What came to mind concerning the characters was the word: inexplicable. The Tekken games are good because they offer you a variety of interestingly themed characters with their own distinct fighting styles and any fan of the games will immediately be able to identify any of the characters from their moves. Eddie, for example, is one of the most loved characters from the game who popularized Capoeria fighting. In the movie Eddie appears only briefly.<br/><br/>Being a fan of the games I was repeatedly disappointed by the lack of distinction between the fighting styles. One would think that if this were a movie about a fighting game then the director, producers and writers would want to focus on the strongest selling points; they simply don't, they waste most of their time on the very weak story.<br/><br/>A similar movie which has become a kind of legend is the first Mortal Kombat movie. It was good, it had a bad storyline, but what made it good is that each of the fighting characters was showcased and fans got a taste of what would happen if those characters were real and had to combat each other in interesting environments; Tekken does not do this.<br/><br/>Overall: Tekken is a weak movie with uninspired and lackluster characters who are sadly downplayed for the sake of a bad storyline.

While you might not think that much of a story can be developed from a game that basically has one-dimensional characters punch each other, you would be wrong. Give director Dwight Little and his partner writer Alan McElroy some credit!<br/><br/>After talking to Dwight, I feel the film is even deeper than I first thought. There is a clear anti-corporate message. The film pushes it to the extreme, but makes us aware of what could happen if corporations were more powerful than countries (in some places they already are). Yes, this is science fiction, but the kernel of truth remains.<br/><br/>There is also a message about the glamor of the big city and staying true to your roots. Jin gets swept up in the excitement, and we can blame him for seemingly forgetting his girlfriend for another woman. But, perhaps this is real life… humans are, after all, human and not the morally upright people we want them to be – Jin, our hero, is no less complex and have his own flaws.<br/><br/>What could have made this film better? Not much. Maybe one more fight scene? Maybe casting Wesley SnipesRaven? Maybe having Danielle Harris appear in a roleoriginally intended? But seriously, all in all, for what they had to work with, the movie comes acrossa streak of pure brilliance.

Jin Kazama is a street fighter who enters the tournament to avenge the death of his mother which he blames on Tekken's powerful chairman, Heihachi Mishama. The only way for him to get close enough to Mishama is if he wins the tournament, but he soon discovers that he needs more than just street fighting experiences to get him through the bloodbath. With the help of Lucas, an aging Iron Fist Champion and trainer, Jin makes his way through the levels of the tournament. In doing so, he also begins to uncover hidden bits of his own past, full of his own inner demons,wella revelation about the dark underbelly of Tekken that threatens the very existence of humanity. Tekken is based on an arcade game series of the same name by Namco Corp, a Japanese video game developer and publisher. The game series was adapted for the movie by screenwriters Michael Colleary, Alan B McElroy, and Mike Werb. No. Yes, he will carry the Devil Gene. However, it's rather realistic adaptation so there's no transformations. Some characters borrow very strongly from real life people, e.g., Marshall Law is based on Bruce Lee. Lei Wulong is based on Jackie Chan, Raven is based on Wesley Snipes, and Craig Marduk is based on Nathan Jones.
